Generator factory wiring

I bought a used older 11 kw generac generator and noticed that the conductors feeding the 50 amp breaker looked to be very small. Like #10 at most...maybe even smaller. Is this normal?

If it's factory wiring very likely i is a higher temperature rated wire possibly with silver coated strands.
As an example you can look at some of the conductors in Table 310.18 or 310.19
