Generator ground rod

Do I need ground rod for air cooled Generac generator and if not what code article tells us this. Is this a seperatly derived system?

By direct NEC Article, Dennis is correct. If the generator is a SDS, a Code required grounding electrode system is needed.
Generac Corp. in their instructions requires a ground rod, in all cases, I believe, and NEC 110.3(B) would apply.

The key wording above is "as specified by local regulations"

There are no local regulations in my area that require a ground rod and the NEC only requires a GES if it is set up as an SDS.

Installing a ground rod for a generator that is NOT set up as an SDS is supplemental.

Would the building grounding eletrode system be an approved earth ground? I'm not reading this as a requirment to use a ground rod.
