First let me say thanks for responses to prior questions. I've found this site to be an invaluable resourse. Today's ? is; recently bought a 5500w gennie that says to connect it to a gnd rod. a) is it necessary b) will a gfi rec. eliminate shock hazard ?

(A) - You have to both follow the NEC requirements and the manufacturers instructions. In either case, it is an absoulte waste of time and materials

(B) - yes, GFCI's reduce shock hazards.
