Have a customer that has purchased a Generac/Magnum Model MMG25IF4 an wanted to be able to hook up to residential using a 50A Cord an wire into transfer switch with an 50A inlet device so they are able to hookup in an emergency situation.I was wanting to see if im right with the code (2014). Table 400.5(a)(1) shows in Column A to use a #4Cord. Also wants to get a cord to wire from Generator to Transfer Switch which is 125A main Breaker on Generator to utilize the full capacity of Generator. So is Table 400.5A2 the table that i would get the cable size for this application.IF so is #2 The coreect size. Aso what type of insulation is used for out door cords. Thanks In Advance

Type SEW or SEOW cord 4 awg for 50A.NEC 2014 Table 400.5(A)(1)-up to 60 A [3 conductors loaded]. See for instance :

For 125 A cable, in my opinion, you may use a W Type cable of #2 [NEC Table 400.5(A)(2) ].
