Hi
I'm trying to hookup a generator for a friend but I think he has an unusual situation.
He has a 400amp service on the side of his house and has a 400amp meter base and on either side he has a 200 amp panel. Each 200 amp panel supplys a different 100amp panel in his garage with numerous lighting and recepticle circuits in each.
He wants to install a 16KW generac with the 100 amp transfer switch that has 16 circuits.
Each 100 amp panel in his garage has different circuits that he wants to power and also back in one of the 200 amp panels is where his ac's are hooked up. So here we have 3 different panels that he wants something in each on to have power. How is this done or can it be done.

Thanks

If your friend is buying a generac, have them send you a 100amp transfer switch without the pre-made panel, this way you can install your own panel, or convert one of the existing panels into a generator panel, thats the norm for me....

It is a tricky set-up.

Can you possibly re-fed both 100amp panels from (1) of the 200amp main panels?
If so, you could use a 200amp service entrance rated transfer switch, and feed (1) panel.

Also, is this going to be automatic or manual transfer???

I honestly do not like the Generac systems and would much rather use Cutler Hammer.

Have your friend list whats important, divide the service up as he desires
I'd hot up some of the house, Momma don't sleep in the garage.
Kitchen, A/C Living room lights & power a must. Everthing else is Fluff...
Garage - Deep freeze, and Can chiller ...

Make sure that if he is going to load up the 16kw that he has enough to start the AC compressor when the time comes.
This is always a problem with the small kw units.
I'm with you TY on your opinion.
