Customer wants a Generator inlet 30 amp. home has a meter main disconnect outside. Inside the home there is a 200 amp main lug panel. how would i go about installing the circuit?

The prime concern would be assuring there was no direct connection to the utility power (prevent backfeeding).
This is often accomplished by a manual or automatic transfer switch or by breaker interlocks.
At 30 amp, a separate panel for selected circuits would be commonplace.
Suggest you review Art 702.

If there is no provision for the inlet breaker to go in the meter main with a listed interlock then you might need to install a main breaker in the panel along with the interlock.

Agree interlock kit is the simplest. Also look at required signs in art Art 702
Does customer genny have GFCI? Is it a solid or floating neutral?

Hi all I’m from Massachusetts I have a question
I have a meter main disconnect 200 amp outside and inside will be a 200amp panel with a 200 amp main breaker. Am I allowed to add an interlock kit for a portable generator if it isolates the 200 amp main breaker in the sub panel ?

I have same issue. But I installed a 200amp panel inside with a 200 amp main. I was going to add Interlock kit on the 200amp main which would be a sub panel technically because my main disco is outside. Hopefully I pass I don’t see why I wouldn’t if utility power is isolated

I have replaced the MLO loadcenter inside with a MB guts, then use an interlock kit.
Ok so this is code complaint I’m doing a service upgrade 100-200 will have outdoor meter main 200amp disconnect inside I’m adding a 200 amp sub panel but the sub panel will have a 200amp main breaker in it. I was going to install an interlock on the main and the generator breaker so it isolates from utility. I just have never used one on a sub panel before.

As long as the generator power is prevented from backfeeding the grid, it doesn't matter where the interlock is placed in the main disconnect or subpanel.
