generator interlock kits

Has anyone had any trouble getting the INTERLOCKIT kits passed by thier local inspectors? Some say they wont pass due to the fact that they are not listed for use by the manufacturer of the panel. Code references?

If they are listed by a NRTL ( nationally recognized testing lab. ) I would pass them.
