I'm quoting a stand by generator for a sewer pump station and I think I need to label meter socket and generator with labels.

meter socket to the effect this building has back up power.

generator labeling where disconnect for breaker is located.

I can not find in the code book where it tells me to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

Although I see inspectors requiring them, signs are not required at meter sockets by the NEC. Signs are required at the service equipment which a meter socket isn't.

ARTICLE 700
Emergency Systems

700.7 Signs.

ARTICLE 701
Legally Required Standby Systems

701.7 Signs.
(A) Mandated Standby.
A sign shall be placed at the service entrance indicating type and location
of on-site legally required standby power sources.

Not sure what they require in NH but down here in NJ the POCO's do not want any signage attached to their meter enclosures. So, you may have to have a weather-proof or engraved phenolic placard placed adjacent to the meter enclosure to warn personnel in the event of an emergency.

ARTICLE 702
Optional Standby Systems

702.7 Signs.
(A) Standby.
A sign shall be placed at the service-entrance equipment that indicates the type and
location of on-site optional standby power sources. A sign shall not be required for individual
unit equipment for standby illumination.

Hope this helps.

And for solid neutral systems, we need to include 702.7(B).
