wouldn't you still use article 220 for the desired loads even though you plan on supplying them by a gernerator ?

I Need The The Proper Way To Figure A Load Calculation For A Gernerator To Submit With My Permit Application.

This is an example using:
Table E3604.2(1) International Residential Code.
Substitute in the circuits you want to run with your generator

It might be a shadow answer but Gen-Rac has a slide chart, thingie...
OK the Brown Box.

I also like the Square D one (but thats off thread)

Thanks but

That calculator is no good, unless you like the black box approach. It teaches nothing.
My attachmment is an example by the book. I added 25% to largest motor just as the protocol says. Sorry but I can't do a perfect load calc unless I know what the gentleman wants to run. I don't know if its back-up power he wants or just minimal emergency. I was trying to show him the fundamentals. I stand behind my post. Yours? Would you be able to submit that to the building department? I would like to see a copy of the way you would calc his loads? (if you knew what they were) I'm not saying it's a finished product but for a pro, it's the place to start. No hard feelings.

It's always tough sitting here pondering what they are trying to do there!

I meant to say "shallow" not shadow. I do agree with you "DW", that all appreciate loads need to be met, as well as AHJ or other authorities, rules.

A tool is just a tool and will remain that tool, its always the operator's fault for lack of knowledge about this tool that gets one in trouble.

Can we assume that if an EC is doing the calculations this is a single family home or very small commercial?

Not everything needs to be complicated for small jobs it is pretty straight forward.

Use Article 220 and make the calcs, submit these for the permit and submit them to the genset supplier.

Use Article 220 and follow examples in Annex D, D2 works good for residential (dwelling) & D3 for non-dwelling.
They really are simple but you'll need the plan and specs, just use excel spreadsheet for the math. If your not comfortable with excel pencil, paper & calculator are great!
