Generator load

Don't worry about the LRC of motors when sizing optional standby systems. Just use one of the methods outlined in Article 220. Motors are covered in 220.50, which refers you back to Article 430.

When all is said and done, you simply need to add 25% to FLC of the motor load.

Are you calculating the loads served for an ATS or sizing the Generator?

The generator. Actually the guy I am helping with this already has 25kw generator and I'm just trying to make sure it's big enough. The load is all lighting except for one A/C unit. LRA is 170, RLA is 26.6.

I've never heard of this approach.

If you dump to much load onto a generator, it can go into load rejection. due to either simple overload, or even caused by a single large motor starting.

Best to due a load analysis to make sure the gen will recover properly. CAT makes a simple program (downloadable off internet) that works for simple installations, and it easy to use.

It seems you may now have to contact the local dealer and then they will send you a disk, but it is free.

Thanks, kingpb. That's what I was understanding from the web site but figured I just wasn't looking in the right place.:D

I appreciate your help in this.

Wow, I just got a call from Caterpillar and the guy said they saw me poking around the website and wanted to know what I was looking for. I told him I was looking for the calculator and he said he would send me one.

Don't know how I feel about that. Is it good salesmanship or kind of pushy? I would hate for every website I visit to call me personally.

What do you guys think? For those of you who have websites do you or would you use this marketing technique, calling people who visit your site?
