Does anyone know of a specific code that indicates minimum distance from a building for Generator?

I can not find anything in the NEC but you should check your local building code.

I know that you can locate them indoors in commercial Buildings.:)

Does anyone know of a specific code that indicates minimum distance from a building for Generator?

NFPA 37, Section 4.1.4, Engines Located Outdoors. Engines, and
their weatherproof housings if provided, that are installed outdoors
shall be located at least 5 ft. from openings in walls and at least 5
ft. from structures having combustible walls. A minimum separation
shall not be required where the following conditions exist:
1. The adjacent wall of the structure has a fire resistance rating
of at least 1 hour.
2. The weatherproof enclosure is constructed of noncombustible
materials and it has been demonstrated that a fire within
the enclosure will not ignite combustible materials outside the
enclosure.

Thanks for the replys all. The location would be in Cumming GA so I guess I'll have to check the local codes there.

@PCN thanks for the reference to NFPA 37. For some reason I'm thinkin 10' would be the min. 5' seems a little close, but I can't find anything other than the 5' reference.

You might have to have a site plan an then go to building zoning dept and they will tell you where it can be placed.

5 foot is a min I believe.

Has any area adopted NFPA 37 as a code?

Not that I know of.
But I sure caused a lot of trouble quoting NFPA 37.
It's good reading and makes a lot of sense, but trying to convince the powers that be that we should attempt to comply...........

I know of a few jurisdictions that have taken the language from NFPA 37 and used in their building code language.
I would suggest speaking with a rep from your local building department, or fire department. I have also seen wording including window, soffits with vents, etc...

And as has been mentioned, zoning restrictions.

A lot of the installs I've done have wording on the plans referring to the nearest openable window. I think it's a life safety code issue, but I'm not sure. If there's no other dimensional info on the plans regarding the location, I just make sure to at least allow for the doors to swing fully open.
