Came across an interesting installation at a site. There is a 600 kVA generator that feeds an electrically operated manual transfer switch. The service is 480/277Y 3 phase 4 wire. The switchboard has all 3 phase 3 wire loads. The MTS is a 3 pole switch. The phase conductors from the generator to the MTS were run in a 5" conduit. (3 sets of 500 MCM per phase). The ground was run in the 5" conduit. The neutrals (I believe a 3-3/0) were run in a separate conduit. The neutrals connect to the service neutrals but don't go any further. My question is even though the neutrals are not required, by installing them, must they be in the same conduit as the phase conductors. Thanks for the replies. Quote code sections if they apply.
