If I have 78 amps on one leg and 80 amps on the other leg , in a 240 1 phase residential house. Everything in home is turned on, all 5 burners, oven, a/c, water heater , etc. What size generator would I need?
I am guessing a 22kw would be enough....

Turning on all the appliances and everything in the house probably isn't an acceptable method for sizing a generator if you're sizing it in accordance with the NEC. Also, if you turned on all those items and they were actually running, I'm sure it would be more then 78A. If this is a hypothetical question, then yes - 22kW would technically cover it.
