We have a meter can that feeds a 200 amp disconnect switch going into a residential panel with a breaker (first point of disconnect) and then we are installing a non service rated transfer switch from that disconnect. Inside the existing disconnect there is a bus bar with the neutral from the can, the neutral going into the residence and the ground going into the residence. I understand that this is the first point of disconnect and the neutral and ground should should be bonded in there as they are. My question is, can I use that same bus bar (there are extra lugs) and run my neutral and ground cables to the transfer switch and just remove the bonding wire in the transfer switch? This would end up with only two cables (one from the disconnect bus bar and one from the generator) on the ground bar and neutral bar in the transfer switch. Does anyone know the code where I can learn more about this? Thanks!

Yes. In fact I believe you have to. There can only be one place on the utility side that ground is bonded to neutral. If the transfer switch doesn't switch the neutral, then there can only be one place period.

Yes. The 200 amp disconnect is your servcie disconnect. The neutrals and equipment grounds should be separated beyond that point and the neutral not bonded in the T/S.
