I have been installing Generac NG/LP Generators for years. I Started off years ago using SER for the power and N/M cable inside the house then would transition to THWN conductors outside the house PVC or carflex. When I became a " Authorized " Generac installer I started using TC-ER-JP as permitted 336.10 (9).
In my travels I see a lot of generators installed by " OTHERS ". PLEASE explain to me how this is acceptable to install the control wires in CL-2 cable ??? For those of you not familiar with Generac control wiring some conductors are 12VDC some are 120 VAC. with Please see attached photo. The SER cable contains the power which is acceptable. Please see photo

Maybe because the control wires are not class 2 and more likely class 1 as they can be ran with the power conductors at least for some distance that Generac allows.

The 6 conductor control system is in the CL-2 white cable in the picture. 3 wires are 12VDC for transfer switch. The others are Utility sensing 240 VAC and 120 VAC for the battery charger. ALL in the same CL-2 cable pictured. Can these different voltages be mixed in a cable that looks like a Low Voltage Cable ( At least to me ).

IMO< the picture shows wiring that would be a violation of Art 725 with Class 1 and Class 2 wiring in the same Class 2 cable but there are some Art 725 exceptions that could prove me wrong..

There are cables made that accommodate class 1 and 2 conductors in the same cable. Southwire makes it for led lighting where there are control wires for 0-10v dimming.

If all the conductors are the same voltage rating or at least rated 300v then they can be together. I thought at one time generac had 2 separate conduis going out to the genny, one for the low voltage and the other for the high voltage. Now I am told they can be in the same conduit. Is this not true.

Even though the power and control wiring used to come in a single whip, we were instructed to supply two conduits from the whip to the ATS, one for the feeder and one for the control wires. But, even then, the line-voltage and low-voltage control wires were still in a single cable and the same conduit.
