Article 445.18 requires a disconnect for generator conductors feeding branch circuit, with the exceptions of the (1) and (2).

I am puzzled? I came acrossed an inspector today that said this requirement is needed even if the gen-set has a disconnect with it, however the switch isnt "readily accessible".

Any further comments of others.

What code version is this jurisdiction following?

When the code requires a disconnect to be readily accessible, it states that. I don't see the requirement in this case, when mounted ON the genset. Ask him to quote chapter and verse.

Is this generator inside or outside? If outside then NEC requires a readily accessible disconnect outside or immediately inside the building. He may be treating this as such a disconnect.
