I have an old (mid nineties) Genie gate opener SGO-1(A). There is absolutely no information about these on the internet. I called Genie and all but begged for a schematic, but they said they didn't have that anymore. I don't believe that, but I don't understand why they would deny me one, since they quit making these in the late 90's and no longer make any kind of gate opener anymore.
I've been having trouble with the gate not opening or closing. I hear a click, hum and a small movement indicating that it's trying to start. The Capacitor has a lot of info on it, but the only thing I can read is the capacitance of 38uf. Everyone calls these start capacitors, so I bought 2 Titan 36-43uf, 330VAC caps. They work for a while and then quit. When i fun them a few times on the bench they get very hot and quit working, When they cool, they work again. I'm starting to believe that this is a PSC motor which requires a run cap and that's why the start caps get hot.
