Has anyone here taken this test?
Was the American Electricians' Handbook helpful at all?
I was wondering how many pages it had and what type of calculations are in it-like transformers and such?

I took it in 2006, didn't have that book but someone said that there was only a couple of questions on it. When I took it, most of the tranny questions were on the wiring diagrams and the UGLY's book was most helpful.
I suggest taking the code book, ugly's, the tax book and don't forget the Business and Project Management for Contractors - Georgia Edition, 2008, 4th Edition, or
2004, 3rd Edition along with Printreading Based on the 2008 NEC ( although I didn't use it much)
This is an 8 hour test broken up into 2 parts. They let me use my Electric Calc calculator but is was only a little helpful.

What part of GA are you from?
Where will you take the test?

I was in columbus just a few weeks ago.

Looks like you guys have plenty of work with that base expansion, and the new kia factory coming.

I took a code book and ugly's book.

all of the tax related questions had the figures needed written into the question.

transformer questions were all 1:2 and 2:1, delta & wye identification type.

lots of questions on welders (why??) and pools.

I caught a tom henry class just before i went; helped a lot.

Thanks BrantMacGA

That is also very helpful, and i do plan on taking some kind of class right before my test.

i just looked at TH's website; looks like he has nothing scheduled for GA this year.

neither does mike holt.

I think TH has scaled back on his seminars since he and jim both retired from working on the road. I believe his son is doing them now.

The guy sitting next to me at the test went to a test seminar at some tech school around marietta. you might look into that.

You may look into your local tech school also.

another option is to order some of mike holt's books for test prep.
