Hello everyone,

I just found this site and I see alot of useful info here already, I was wondering if any Licensed Electricians here (especially ones from NJ) had any tips for what Prep literature/materials, courses etc... they found to be of the best help in getting their brain in gear when it was time for the test(s), I'll most likely be taking mine within the next 6 months so it's time to eat my wheaties:D

Thanks for your input!

Hey Mr sparkle. I'm taking my exam in Jan.07. The link that the celtic guy gave u is a good one. You can download application and it gives you basic requirements. Just to let you know they want the application 4moths prior to taking exam. The cut offs are in there. Im taking a master's exam at middlesex county college. Its okay, lot of code questions are thrwon at you but they are in order. So no back and forth. You got to know the book.

Good luck any ? shout out

I just passed the NJ exam in oct. I studied hard and long. I liked mike holts books, but I did find that at least for NJ it got into way too much detail on the calculations. Thats not to say you dont need to know the calculations, but I stressed and spent way too much time studying long calculations that were not on the test. I would suggest doing as many code questions as possible and knowing your code book back and forth. There were also many questions on signaling circuits and hazardous locations. I studied the fire alarm portion from a NICET 2 cd-rom (get the 1999 edition $125) and passed with a 90 %. I have done very little fire alarm work. I studied the business law portion from American Contractors nj business law test prep ($65) and also easily passed. If you are interested I have these study books and would be happy to sell you mine for half the price. Also I wasnt very impressed with stallcups books for calculations, I found entire sections that were wrong with their calc methods and wasted much time figuring out their mistakes. Good luck

Does NJ have a Master Electricians License?

I literally guessed at every single calc. question....

...considering all questions counted the same. I knew the Code ('93) - or at least where to find the answer - fowards and back. I opted to stick with the "know what you know" concept.

I answered all the "easy" ones first, the ones I was "shaky" on, then the ones I wasn't so sure about...then checked ALL my answers....went and had a smoke, sat down and picked "C" for all the calculations :D.

Passed easily....
...but, I have to admit, I am sorely lacking in the calculations department STILL.

I oughta buy a book... ;)

Nope.

They do have a "Qualified Journeyman's Card"...if your interested in compling the paperwork(work experience) and submitting that along with a check made out to the State.
No one has every asked to see mine...I think I got ripped off :)

Sounds like it's not worth the paper it's written on. My license says Electrical Contractor. Never heard of a NJ master Electrician.

It's not...one day I hope to sell it on eBay and make a fortune :D

I'll flash my EC card - if I happen to have "in my possession" at that time...which I don't and won't ever "carry with me". The wallet sweat would disintergrate it ;)

There is no "master" in NJ...some guys like to "proudly" display their "master" status on their trucks, cards, etc...but there is no official "masters" in NJ...and since there is no qualifing to be a "master", anyone can claim "master" status.
