GFCI and AFCI in laundry areas

210.8A(10) Laundry areas requires GFCI in the 2014. 210.12A also requires AFCI in Laundry areas. Am I really going to have to by a combination type AFCI breaker then go install GFCI at receptacle locations? Why isn't there an exception for negating one or the other if AFCI or GFCI is installed?
 
There is not an exception since the two serve different purposes and both functions are being required. At least now several manufacturers offer breakers with both AFCI and Class A GFCI functionality in one unit.
You may still choose to use a combination of breaker and receptacle to meet both requirements, but you have the single device alternative.
