Customer has added a bedroom and bath ...
question 1...run one 20 amp circuit to bath...one receptacle(gfci)..vanity light and exhaust fan...Article 210.11(C)(3)....exception would allow light and fan on circuit with receptacle...Article 210.23 exception (shall supply only receptacle outlets)...My question is....Is it compliant to put light and fan on circuit with receptacle?
question 2...AFCI in bedroom....Article 210.12(B)..All outlets in bedrooms must be AFCI protected...a light/ceiling fan will be installed...Question..Is it compliant to put light/fan on same circuit with receptacles or should a seperate AFCI circuit be run?.....
Will be running new circuits from panel....Type nm copper (12/2) costs $108.00 for a 250 foot roll...and 14/2 costs $65.00....(home depot/lowes)
Thanks...wildman

#1. You may combine other loads in the bathroom with the receptacle in that same bath room. . .so, yes.

#2. A luminaire is mounted at an outlet. A smoke detector is mounted at an outlet. A receptacle is mounted at an outlet. All outlets, per 210.12(B) are required to have AFCI, so it is compliant to combine then on the same AFCI circuit.

I agree with Al.

The only reason I am posting this, however, is that Al and I don't often agree, and I thought it worth taking note of the fact when it happens. :)

Jbfan74....I am located in war-town....(warner robins)...work in Macon at the Papermill....do "side-work".....some people really "hate them words"....
but....got the state license....got the business license...do the 4 hours of continuous education every year....got the new 2005 code book....ready, willing and able.....How about you?....
I am going to mention one thing and then I am gonna hush....got to say it...just making a statement.....The state of Georgia is requiring all general contractors to be licensed beginning July, 2007....nuff said! No reply necessary....do not want the mod squad mad at me!!! wildman

jbfan74.....went to Jimmy Buffett concert in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago....just standing in the rain....wondering with all the thunder and lightning...what spike protection did Jimmy have on all his electrical equipment?....someone said the more you indulge in the spirits the less conductive you become.....didn't feel a thing!! wildman

The state of Georgia is requiring all general contractors to be licensed beginning July, 2007.

Just what does that have to do with us? Can they pull electrical permits? Is this requirement going to change anything? Will it stop all the DIYs and non licensed people from doing elect work?

Gotta aske wildman. How did you get the tix? Was online at 9:59 and sold out before my request went thru. I have worked in Macon and WR. Used to do store maint. for Winn Dixie. I now work as a contactor for a major corp. mainting their warehouse and office in Peachtree City. I also do the "side work" with all license and business stuff.

The only thing the contactor license will do is slow some of the scam artist that will not back their work or finish their work. You have to prove 10 years in business before the grandfather clause.

You still need a state electrical license to pull permits, unless you are a homeowner.

George...I do not do new services....I do not wire new houses....I do not rewire aluminum wired houses .....I do not do panel upgrades.....I love the small jobs....repair work mostly....just won a bid the other day on a bath/bedroom addition on an existing residential dwelling.....just lights/receptacles/exhaust fan....etc.....I leave the big stuff for the starving public....I do this on the "side" when I have time from my Electrical Maintenance job at the papermill...you know ...a couple of hours in the evening and maybe every other Saturday....I get 8 weeks vacation from my papermill job....I may do a side job or two during that time, as well! So, this is my definition of "side jobs"....or maybe you prefer the word "hobby"...
Wildman...

I define side-work as unlicensed (or insufficient licensed) work performed uninsured without the proper permits (or under the Homeowner's permit).

"Hobby" works. :D
