a job was was shot down because the light above the whirlpool was not gfci protected does it need to be piggybacked off of the gfci receptical or can you protect the bathroom with a gfci breaker and call it a day
In the interest of expedience, you can GFCI the entire circuit and call it a day.
Do you know if the fixture was listed as requiring GFCI protection ?
If we are talking hydrotubs and there is no manufacturer requirement for GFCI, I'd ask the inspector for a Code reference.
I know of no such requirement. Perhaps another member does.
I agree wit our new moderator Gus (congrats dude). There is no requirement for GFCI protection over a hydromassage tub. I have had inspectors question me but they could not substantiate their call.
thanks for the input they look like hydromassage bathtubs to me and not hot tubs i think he is referring to 680.43 b 1 a well see how this turns out thanks again

If that's the case, and this is a hydrotub (defined in 680) ask him to read the last sentence of 680.70 and show you the local requirement.
Being one, I'm very "pro" inspector, but part of the job is providing you with the valid reason for a rejection.
