Apparently the GFCI covers that I currently have will not be acceptable for wet locations under the 2014 NEC. Can someone please explain to me what has changed from the 2011 code to the 2014 that affects GFCI covers for wet locations?
The 2008 NEC required extra duty outlet box hoods for recpts mounted at grade, 2011 changed for all wet locations.
My local wholesale house has a display of extra duty hoods, to me the look the same as the pre 2008 NEC types
Covers must now be rated "extra-duty". I take this to mean that they can handle more use.
I thought it was bull at first, but I suppose the motivation is that a cover that is broken in a wet location will subject the device and wiring to much more damage than one in merely a damp location. Therefore make the covers more robust.
