I have read several comments about gfi's for refrigerators in kitchens. I havent seen in the code book where they are mandatory unless the receptacle is within 6ft of a sink.

There is no direct requirement that a refrigerator or freezer be GFCI protected. The protection is triggered by the location of the receptacle. In many kitchens, the refrigerator receptacle would be within 6' of the sink.

If you are talking residential and the 2014 then gfci is required where it is within 6' of the sink but not under the 2011. 2014 also will require afci

refrigerators.

refrigerators.

yes I forgot to mention 2014 code and residential.

Also, I ran across that you can't run your garage circuit to outdoor receptacles in the 2014 code. If I understood it correctly?

I saw several comments posted on this forum about gfci protection for the garbage disposal and dishwasher. I don't have the new 2014 handbook. The 2011 handbook does say in the notes that this isn't necessary. I don't see it specified in the 2014 regular Code Book that dispoal and dish washer are exempt from gfci protection even if they are within 6ft of the sink.

dish washers and disposals

I bought the 2014 handbook. It says the same thing on disposals and dish washers on 210.8a6.
