Since GFCI are normally suppose to be readily accessible, & now the refrigerator in the kitchen is to be GFCI & AFCI protected , & I normally put then on a separate circuit, about the only way to do this is with the combination AFCI / GFCI breaker ?

Any other ideas about this would be appreciated :D

From the 2014:

210.8 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel. Ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel shall be provided as required in 210.8(A) through (D). The ground-fault circuit-interrupter shall be installed in a readily accessible location.
Informational Note: See 215.9 for ground-fault circuitinterrupter protection for personnel on feeders.
(A) Dwelling Units. All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in the locations specified in 210.8(A)(1) through (10) shall have ground-fault circuit interrupter protection for personnel.
...........)
(6) Kitchens ? where the receptacles are installed to serve the countertop surfaces

Wall outlets, fridge, micro, garbage grinder.... no GFCI.

I thought the garbage disposal had to be gfi'd since it was within 6' of kitchen sink?

Right after the 6' provision we see:
Exception: Receptacles installed for appliances in dedicated spaces, such as for dishwashers, disposals, refrigerators, freezers, and laundry equipment.
You would also not have to check the exceptions about a GFCI for the disposal if it were hard wired instead of plug connected. (But then where would you put the disconnect?)

I could have sworn that the exception for the plug under the sink was removed in 2014. Guess I was wrong

I'm looking in 2008 and 2014 nec and I don't see that exception. Can you tell me where it says that? I'm looking at 210.8 (a)

There apparently have been so many versions and errata for 2014 that I am not sure that the version I looked at was authoritative. I will let you know more when I check....

That's my read . But the refer more than 6' from sink, GFI not required.

Add in the 2014 AF requirements and it can be hard to keep straight in the middle of a kitchen rough-in. So I typed out a list that I keep with me that lays out the AFI/GFI rules for kitchens.

Would you mind posting the list that you made? Would be nice if one could find "all" of the requirements for one item say AFCI's in one place !! :happyyes:
