Re: GFCI-garage locations
Is there any reason not to use a GFCI on a circuit used by an electronic sprinkler controller? It won't cause the GFCI to trip will it? I just did some garage work for some people I know and the existing recep used by the controller was non-GFCI. It is now though. I took the oppurtunity to make some changes to the existing homeownered additions. A beautiful sight: #14 added to a 20A circuit, unsafe routing of NM-B, extension cords (smashed by boxes in the attic) feeding the second garage door opener, the list goes on. I told them they should consider themselves lucky that one of the receps stopped working, that way they could have it wired by a pro.
In our home, there is a recep over a 15" wide kitchen counter top that is not GFCI protected. I'm not sure how it passed (1994 built home), as it shouldn't be for a microwave. The home has a built in micro/hood over the range. We currently have a toaster plugged in at the location. I think I'll GFCI protect the outlet.
