We are installing GFCI rec. in a landscaped median island. These will be feeding future 'Holiday' lighting on palm trees. Does anyone know of a min. or max. height requirement for these receptacles?
Thanks

By the mention of Palm trees I'm guessing that you don't have to worry about Snow getting in there. :)

There is no height requirements per the NEC, but I think common sense should apply so that it doesn't end up in a puddle or below ground-level if any additional bedding is added.

GFCI is not required but I recommend. You'll need a weather proof in use cover. I would install at 5 or 6 ft as the bubble covers are often broken by those with nothing better to do, and being higher will give some protection.

I just came back from a trip to California, and at the Irvine Spectrum they have hundreds of palm trees lite up. They used sealtite and Bell boxes/GFCI protected. The boxes were from 8 to 12 inches above grade. I took pictures, in New York we don't have too many live palm trees. Also the method of fastening the lights to the trees was interesting. Maybe I will submit some of the pictures to Bill if he wants them.

Thanks for your input. The interesting thing about this job is that there are 200 palm trees and every tree gets its own GFCI rec. I think there had to be a cheaper way to do this.

Whoever is paying for this is apparently not concerned with the price. Separate GFCI's provide better protection than daisy chaining.
