What is the distance from a sink located on an island and also on a countertop that a GFCI inside a lab needs to be located? Is it supposed to be 6 ft? What article refers to this?

Re: GFCI in laboratory

If this is not a bathroom, rooftop, or a kitchen, 210.8(B) does not require one. Of course there are other locations like farmsteads, commercial garages, health care facilities, etc. but your laboratory doesn't appear to be one of those.

Re: GFCI in laboratory

We've seen a lot of these type questions. I always wonder:
Does someone not want a GFCI? Perhaps due to cost.
Or do they want a GFCI? For safety.

Remember the NEC is a minium. And with the new UL 2003 GFCI standard, GFCI prices will probably double. Stock up now.

Re: GFCI in laboratory

The question was posed for safety. I believe that a GFCI should be installed, but powers above me seem to not be able to use "common sense" about electrical/safety requirements?! I was hoping to get proof, so I could avoid trying to use logic on our so intelligent management!!!! :D

Re: GFCI in laboratory

As stated this is not required by the NEC. It is certainly not prohibited either.
