In doing my CEUs on ICC site they addressed the need for GFCI protection in laundry areas in other than dwelling units. They expressed that laundromats needed GFCI protection. But they did not reference the washers and dryers although they pictured them.
If you have hardwired washers and dryers do they require GFCI protection?

The GFCI requirement for laundry areas stayed the same what changed is the voltage now includes 240V receptacle outlets.
It if your in PA last I checked they were on the 2017, NJ is on the 2020
See 2020 NEC 210.8 (B) (11)
If you don't have a codebook you can view adopted codes for free on upcodes:
NJ 210.8(B):
All 125-volt through 250-volt receptacles supplied by single-phase branch circuits rated 150 volts or less to ground, 50 amperes or less, and all receptacles supplied by three-phase branch circuits rated 150 volts or less to ground, 100 amperes or less, installed in the locations specified in 210.8(B)(1) through (B)(12) shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.

Yes in PA 2017 I got a 2017 handbook and NFPA link. I really like the handbook it was worth the extra money. In doing the 2020 CEUs it was unclear, for a dishwasher it was clear concerning hardwire or receptacle outlet needing GFCI.
Thank you for your help

Understand that it's receptacles that require GFCI protection, not loads, per se.
Thank you, Larry. The dishwasher addition ( hard wired or receptacle outlet) sort of muddied the waters for me.

I need to educate myself to understand this concept better. I guess cord and plug connection adds a bunch of variables, but I sometimes wander in the case of hardwiring metal appliances if there could be enough leakage current to injure someone without the standard breaker tripping.

Also Larry it seems 422.5A per the enhanced content states all the items cord and plug or hardwire require GFCI protection. Also part of my confusion why just those items.
