GFCI location requirements in hospitals

I was hoping to get some clarification on where GFCIs are required to be installed in hospitals specifically

I've worked in hospitals for over 30 years and have never gotten a clear picture of how we should interpret the 6' rule for sink locations.
Is this a dyed in the wool 6' circumference from the outside edge of the sink?
Does Article 210.8 of NFPA 70-2011 hold true for hospitals, specifically 210.8(B)(1) through (8)?

We have been cited by TJC on specific electrical receptacles within 6' but in unusual circumstances

Please provide your wisdom on what you think is the best tack to take on what we absolutely need to address.

Thanks

210.8 applies to hospitals as well, but there is an exception to 210.8(B)(5) that allows receptacles located in patient bed locations of general care or critical care spaces to omit the GFCI protection. Patient bed locations, general care spaces, and critical care spaces are all defined in Article 517.
