GFCI Outlets and Hospital Emergency Power Circuits

Not sure where to ask this so here goes. I work at an older hospital and I am upgrading the emergency outlets to red HG outlets. These have approx 55 volt on both sides of the outlets. Do these need GFCI outlet protection at sink areas? If installted the GFCI outlets don't work in a test anyway.

It sounds as though these outlets are fed from an Isolation Power System and with that being the case they would not need to be GFCI's even in wet locations.

Give NEC 2008 517.20 AND 21 a read. It does sound like they are on an isolation panel system (which is non grounded system). If this is the case then gfci is not required.

Also, remember the only TRUE approved way to 'test' a gfci is by pressing the test button on a gfci. You do not test them by using a plug in tester.
