Can anyone tell me if either OSHA and / or NEC code would allow and outlet to be placed at a certain height above floor level in lieu of having a GFCI. Situation (zoo cage where they commonly use water hose to clean area.

Any help and or input would be appreciated!

No, not in the 2002 or 2005.

OSHA still may have a different view.

It seems like the outlets should be relocated if continuously being sprayed with water.

Re: GFCI outlets / receptacles

I always say this and it has nothing to do with code but why not just use one?

Re: GFCI outlets / receptacles

The GFCI requirements are not to protect the receptacle itself. The requirements are to protect the people who plug things in to these receptacles. The height of the recptacle has no bearing on the requirements.

I think I would use a weatherproof box even if it is protected from the rain.
