Good day all, have a project where a small hotel is replacing 2 existing residential style clothes washing machines with 2 commercial/industrial style washers. No big deal! These new washing machines will be 208v 20amp single phase hardwired units. The problem the inspectors can’t see past (and I have talked to 3 so far waiting on the supervisors decision) is whether or not GFCI protection is required. I know at the end of the day the AHJ will ultimately decide but I have looked through 210.8(B) and it states receptacles not outlets. So I moved on to 210.8(D) Specific Appliances and clothes washers are not on the list, dryers are though and high pressure spray washing machines(which one inspector questioned whether or not that was what that meant lol) I even looked in 422.5 and once again washing machines not on the list. This will be the first time I have ever hardwired a washing machine so I have never been in this scenario, from what I can find in the NEC 2023 I am not required to GFCI protect a hardwired washing machine. Would love to hear any thoughts or experiences with this type of install thanks
