GFCI protection for swimmimng pool motors

A single phase 240 volt 1 1/2hp swimming pool pump motor, wired with #14awg power conductors, and grounded with, a #12awg grounding conductor, powered from a 2 pole 25 ampere breaker..... Does it require GFCI protection?

No, unless you are using the 2014 NEC. I believe the intent was to have it controlled by gfci but the wording does not support it. That is why they made the change in the 2014 NEC
 
Here is the 2011

(C) GFCI Protection. Outlets supplying pool pump motors
connected to single-phase, 120 volt through 240 volt branch
circuits, rated 15 or 20 amperes, whether by receptacle or by
direct connection, shall be provided with ground-fault circuitinterrupter
protection for personnel.

Here is the 2014

(C) GFCI Protection. Outlets supplying pool pump motors
connected to single-phase, 120-volt through 240-volt
branch circuits, whether by receptacle or by direct connection,
shall be provided with ground-fault circuit-interrupter
protection for personnel.

I am not certain that is the case as we have had dp 30, 50 etc for a long time. My understanding was that since hot tubs were being required to have gfci then so should swimming pools that were above 20 amps.
