GFCI Receptacles

A local engineer has made a statement on how many receptacles can be fed from a feed thru 20amp GFCI to protect downstream rece ptacles. I can't find anything in the NEC 2002 or in installation instructions from manufactures. Can any one help with this.

May I ask what you mean by ?made a statement?? Is this a requirement that the engineer placed on a drawing or in a specification? If so, then it is a design choice, and not a code issue. Or is this an ?assertion of truth? that the engineer made, not related to any specific project? If so, then I would challenge the engineer to provide the design basis behind such a statement.
