GFCI required for drinking fountains

Just noticed the 2008 code added 422.52:

Electric Drinking Fountains: Electric drinking fountains shall be protected with ground-fault circuit interrupter protection.

I think 80% thought this was a requirement anyway, and I always provided GFCI receptacles even though they were not required.

But now I'm not sure if that means I am supposed to specify GFCI receptacles for these, or if the manufacturers are supposed to include that as part of the fountain.

422.52 doesn't have the same language as 422.51 for vending machines, so I don't forsee too many manufactures incorporating GFCI protection intergral to the drinking fountain. I would just plan on installing a GFCI protected receptacle.

Yes, I hadn't thought of that. So its a GFCI receptacle (which is probably what most people have been doing anyway).
