GFCI required in industrial or sign shop?

GFCI requirements are mostly in section 210.8, too lengthy to post here.
Who is telling you that GFCIs are required?
Is the location a garage or similar?
GFCIs are inexpensive, If concrete floor I would recommend them.

No, there is no 'garage' its just a shop next to a carpenter shop. It is a concrete floor. I checked 210.8, not seeing a gfci required for the sign area. I thought maybe I was missing something when someone said it was needed. They have yet to show me what code or article required it.

The fact that it's a sign shop or printers is irrelevant. Consider it like any other shop floor with machinery. Are GFCIs required there?

Exactly, what the equipment is does not matter. Its the location, IE outdoors, basement, etc
You won't see a section for "sign shop".

And what is different between said shop floor with machinery and most repair garages when it comes to risk of shock? Doesn't matter IMO if it is an area for repairs or production, the shock risks are pretty similar, particularly for cord and plug connected items.

I agree here. If nothing else, you can save the $200 of time it takes to get an answer.
Thanks for all the responses. This is work that was already done and receptacles installed. The crew did not install gfci receptacles as the prints didnt call for it, nor did the estimater spec for it. He says its fine. Some one else brought up the gfci issue and said it was required. Before we ask the crew to change the receptacles out, we just wanted a code referrence to be sure. I could not think of one or find one in this scenerio where it was required.

Change order? :)

OK that makes sense now. Regarding the "someone who said", Mike Holt once said "is that what you think or what you know?"
We all have recommended GFCIs, but it does not appear they are required.
