GFCI requirement

Is GFCI protection required for a feeder circuit that is a 3 way switch loop from a garage to two lights on a metal carport 20' away? There in no receptacle outlets.

There is no specific requirement in the NEC for GFCI in a carport. Not sure if GFCI is meant to be used with a lighting circuit.

GFCIs (in this case) are only required to protect receptacles, not circuits.

Yeah thats what I thought. Is there ever a time when ground fault protection is required for a lighting circuit without receptacles? Thanks for the info so far to everyone who has responded.

GFCI can be required by the manufacturer of certain bath fans when installed over a shower stall. This is not an NEC issue but a manufacturers instruction that we must follow.

GFCI can also be required for lighting near hot tubs and pools
