I did an addition/remodel to a tire shop. The inspector asked that I make sure all the receptscle outlets inside were gfci protected…. This building is tire shop/Napa fuel station which they added on and addition for tire and parts storage and then remodeled the pos. the floor is finished concrete.

Problem I’m having is They have ups’s plugged in at the point of sale,!and because of this they keep having trouble with gfci receptacles and breakers tripping.

I just looked over 210.8 2020 nec the only think I could see requiring this building to be gfci protected would be 210.8(8) garages, accessory buildings, service bays, and similar areas other than vehicle halls and showrooms.

Was there a change in 2023 code? For a requirement I’m not seeing?

Do all receptacles need to be protected in all areas of this building because it’s considered a garage?

Or is it just
(8)the tire shop/ tire shop storage, “Garage area”
(1) Bathrooms,
(2) kitchens,
(4) outdoors,
(5) sinks,

Basically meaning the point of sale receptacles/ merchandise sales floor receptacles/ office receptacles don’t require gfci protection?

Thanks in advance to any and all responses I always appreciate the help from this forum.

IMO, not every receptacle outlet has to be GFCI protected. However, (there's always a however in life), I don't have the 2023 code, yet.
You should since Colorado adopted it August 1st.

I agree I don’t think the customer area, office, or point of sale should be. But the inspector insisted, and I didn’t think twice about it until today when I looked at 210. And to think of it the permit was filed long before colorado adopted 2023 code.

Looks like I should be able to remove gfi and keep ups on normal circuit

I agree and I hope your inspector will agree.
More so, I hope this isn't the city I used to inspect in! 😀
