A GFCI receptacle. A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), also called Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) or Residual Current Device (RCD) is a device that shuts off an electric power circuit when it detects that current is flowing along an unintended path, such as through water or a person. this is probably one of the most simple maintenance checking you can do by your own without having to call someone to come look at it. its a simple push of the tester button.

Welcome to the forum. Is there a question here?

Newer GFCIs self-test. Older ones can and do fail to the point where I'd replace any of them more than 25 years old.
