I am wiring a new house in new york. I have installed can lights directly above the bathtub. It is a hydromassage tub. The inspector wants me to put the lights on a gfci. he quoted aticle 680. According to article 680 and the defintion of a hydromassage bathtub it says do not follow article 680 but follow chapters 1-4 as it pertains to bathrooms . Am i right?

Re: gfci

680.70 covers requirements for hydromassage bathtubs. GFCI protection is required for the associated electrical equipment, and all 125-volt, 30-ampere or less receptacles located within 5' of the inside walls of the tub. 680.72 goes on to cover requirements for other electrical equipment in the area including light fixtures. This where it refers back to Chapters 1-4. Unless the inspector is citing a local code, the light fixture can be GFCI protected, but it is not mandatory.
