GFCIs required for parts washers

Are GFCIs required for parts washers, (the type that are normally found in garages to clean engine parts)? This particular parts washer is not in a commercial garage setting and therefore I don't think article 511 can be used.

I agree it would be good practice since dealing with a metal tub, small pump, usaully a lamp, and parts cleaner solution (to which I don't know if it is conductive or not) but is there some part of the code that this scenario would fit in to require GFCI protection or not to require it?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The requirements for GFCI protection are to be found in 210.8. There is a residential section and a non-dwelling unit section. Each has a list of the places you must have GFCI, and your application is not on the list.

The 2008 NEC adds "receptacles within 6 feet of a sink" to the list for non-dwelling units. If your area is governed by the 2008 version, and if there is a sink nearby your parts washer, and if the equipment is powered via plug and cord connections, then the receptacles will need GFCI. Otherwise, it is not a requirement, but you can still do it if you like.
