GFI Buzzing?

A friend of mine installed a gfi receptical in his bathroom. He tells me that it keeps buzzing. last night he told me that it tripped. My question is; Is there a chance he connected the line side to the load side? could this be the reason that is is buzzing?

If he did that, it would not operate. Even if he reversed polarity, it would still work. My guess is a bad GFI, or if there is a downstream load, it has something going on causing it to trip
