I have receptacle within six feet of sink dwelling unit kitchen which is for refrigerator not on counter but behind refrigerator. Would GFCI be required NEC 2014 Section 210.8(A)?

2014 yes.

before 2014 no.

Ok I was getting confuse by blue notes NEC 2014 Section 210.8(A) six feet of sink section which says receptacles other than kitchen six feet of sink need to be GFCI but that’s not in code language just blue letters. There is also exhibit illustrating that NEC 2014 handbook

2011 the six foot rule was worded that is doesn't apply in kitchens.

All kitchen countertop receptacles still required GFCI protection by a different part of 210.8 whether there was sink involved or not. But a receptacle not serving a countertop did not need GFCI protection - so the one behind the fridge didn't need it. 2014 kitchen countertop receptacles still need GFCI but there was change to include anything within six feet of any sink (including the kitchen sink).
