GFI dock

We have been discussing an existing installation at one of our docks here at work. There is a 240V ice eater hooked up on a dock, the feeder to the breaker and can on the dock is 2 hots and an EGC. This serves only this piece of equipment, and there is no other wiring on the dock. Is a neutral required to be run to this breaker and can that houses the GFI breaker for the ice eater?

If you press the test button on the GFI and it trips you should be OK.
If it does not trip, it is probably because the electronics in the breaker require the neutral for power.

ICE EATER? Deicer. This Florida boy had to Google it. Since the 2008 in Florida code only address recepticals and lift motors, just sayin' that if you were to install one here :lol::blink::happyno:, I see no need to install a GFI per code. Some brands of GFI breakers do not require a neutral.
