Does a countertop in a kitchen with no sink and more that 6ft from the closest sink in another countertop requires GFI receptacle
Code cycle, LUIS?
Is it a new receptacle added to pre-70 construction or a question of whether an installed receptacle is still acceptable?Does it make a difference in this case?
I see it as outlets serving kitchen counters and that has been pretty rock steady since the 70s.

GFCI protected if within six feet of the sink until about 1993 or 1996 IIRC, then they went with ALL counter top receptacles required to have GFCI protection.

Agree.
OP may not do much work in dwellings, maybe did once know there was the six foot from sink rule long ago.OK, 1996.
Now what areas are currently using 1993 or earlier?
I swear we can take the most basic question and turn it in to a train wreck.
Common in the 70'sI am renting a house where GFI breaker in panel for vanity receptacles (both baths), none anywhere else.
Many more then 2011 or 1970's?Since the train seems to be still moving.
I belive the 2014 code requires many more places. I don't have the 2014 code.

If memory serves, when I started in 1973, you only needed them in bathrooms.hmy:Common in the 70's
