gfi in kitchen

Does it make a difference in this case?

I see it as outlets serving kitchen counters and that has been pretty rock steady since the 70s. :)
Is it a new receptacle added to pre-70 construction or a question of whether an installed receptacle is still acceptable?

Was only required to be
GFCI protected if within six feet of the sink until about 1993 or 1996 IIRC, then they went with ALL counter top receptacles required to have GFCI protection.

OK, 1996.

Now what areas are currently using 1993 or earlier?

I swear we can take the most basic question and turn it in to a train wreck. :(

OP may not do much work in dwellings, maybe did once know there was the six foot from sink rule long ago.

With the unquenchable quest for knowledge I find in my inspection area (at least 5 electricians have a current NEC), I still encounter folks who comply with the "6' ft of the sink" rule :D

Since the train seems to be still moving.
I belive the 2014 code requires many more places. I don't have the 2014 code.

Many more then 2011 or 1970's?:)

Dwelling unit changes for 2014 are primarily:

A change around kitchen sinks - up to 6 feet away is to be GFCI protected whether it is a counter top receptacle or not.

A list item for within 6 feet of bathtubs or shower stalls was added (doesn't change what was done in past in bathrooms, but if you had a tub or shower that was not in a NEC defined bathroom before it technically didn't require GFCI protection in the vicinity)

Laundry area receptacles were added.

Dwelling unit dishwashers were added.
