GFI on well pump?

Hi all,

Can someone help me out? My books in the truck, truck is not here. Someone called to ask if I would hook up a well pump which was being replaced. From what I recall, I think they have to be on a gfi circuit now.

Is this correct?

depends if plug and cord connected and the location of the receptacle, if hard wired then no, it is not required to be on a GFCI.

Also if a receptacle is existing then grandfather law says it can stay existing.
