I have wired two 1.5 hp sump pumps through a duplex control panel fed by a 30 amp / 240 volt single phase
circuit. the duplex control panel has individual 20 amp circuit breakers and contactors for each pump.
This is all hardwired, the control panel sealed shut, the sump pit sealed shut. The residential "combination" inspector says I need GFI protection. I say not. What do you say?

thanks for the reply.

Not.
Ask him/her for code section.
Ask what the GFCI is going to protect, what is the shock hazard?

Re: gfi protection for residential sump pit pumps

Did the pump manufacturer demand GFCI in their docs? A listing/labeling issue perhaps?

Re: gfi protection for residential sump pit pumps

No, the manufacturor does not require GFI protection; merely the whim of the inspector.

thanks for the reply.
