Just talked to the GC of a job that I am doing.

Says the electrical failed because the garbage disposal (which is a seperate circuit) was not GFI protected.

Will call the inspector on Monday.

Ever heard of this before?

210.8 only requires GFCI protection for receptacles in the kitchen if those receptacle serve the countertop surfaces. The receptacle that serves my disposal is located under the sink, and could not be used for anything on the countertop. It doesn't need GFCI, and doesn't have it.

Not only that, I would think the wind up on the disposal would trip the GFCI if so equipped.
I don't think this is an issue. The GFCI should work just fine on a garbage disposal however, I agree with Charle-- none is needed.

the county i live in got a new inspector awhile back (we have ONE inspector who covers everything). my first final got turned down because the disposal recep was not in a weatherproof box and did not have an in-use cover; it was needed because it was "under the sink". i kid you not. a quick code lesson and we were good to go!

I like to have my Code book sitting on at a table right where the inspector can see it. I think it shows them that I am Code informed and ready to present a case if need be. I've been relatively lucky and have not run into too many inspectors with bizazar interpatations. I have one inspector who inspects with his code book in his hand. We have never argued.
