Do we need a GFI receptacle to feed a portable 5 gallon Poland Spring type water fountain the type you would see in an office?

422.52 Electric Drinking Fountains. Electric drinking fountains shall be protected with ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection.

Section 422.52 requires GFCI protection for electric water drinking fountains. The GFCI protection must be either a part of the fountain, included in the receptacle for the fountain, or provided on the branch circuit feeding the fountain.


No would be your answer. Your application is a bottled water cooler and not a drinking fountain.
